Along Came a Spider: An Introduction

We all have our obsessions. Spider-Man is mine.

I'm a great lover of all things pop culture, from films, to books, to television, to music, to games, and of course, comics. I have a great affection for horror fiction, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (even more affection for its spin-off Angel), Star Trek (especially Deep Space Nine), The X-Files, the works of Gerry Anderson, Scooby-Doo...I think you get the idea. I devour this stuff with fervour; have done all my life. But it wasn't until recently that I realised that out of all the cornerstones of culture that I love and adore, there's only really one that I don't think I could ever live without: the Amazing, the Spectacular, the Sensational...Spider-Man.

Spidey has long been my favourite superhero, and my favourite fictional character, and I've voiced my opinions on a good many web-head related matters elsewhere on the internet. Years ago, I started a project to review every episode of every single Spider-Man cartoon. I got as far as the first two episodes of Spider-Man Unlimited before quietly retiring the series, and the blog that those reviews once occupied is now lost to time. More recently, I've covered the three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies over on my Letterboxd page (I'm on there as C_Hughes78, if you're curious). What I've never talked about before, outside of reference in the aforementioned reviews of Spidey adaptations, are the comics that started it all. This is especially strange when you consider that the comics are by far my favourite continuity to follow for the web-slinger.

Well, I'm finally rectifying this oversight. This blog (and I've had a fair few over the years) is both my love letter and my soapbox; the repository for my thoughts about all things Spider-Man, starting with Amazing Fantasy #15 and going...who knows how far. If you're the sort of person who enjoys reading other people's opinions on the internet, you've come to the right place, and by all means, post your own thoughts in the comments; I'll do my best to reply to them all. This project has been a long time coming, and I couldn't be more excited to begin.

Whether you're a newbie to the wondrous world of Spider-Man, or a seasoned die-hard like myself, welcome. I hope that whatever you're going through in life, no matter what your situation, that this blog will be what Spider-Man represents to me: home.

Face front, true believer, and keep thy webs untangled!
